PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

I just got back from the Plein Air Convention in Las Vegas..It was really great with over 500 plein air artists from all over the world showing up! There were great demos and talks from some really great artists and others. Clyde Aspevig gave a great talk as did Kenn Backhaus and Jean Stern. Matt Smith, Jean LeGassick, Ken Auster, Scott Christensen, Camille Prezwodik and myself gave demos and everyone really felt that they really enjoyed it and were inspired by it all! Eric Rhodes gave a series on Marketing which was full of great ideas and advice. There were a lot of great vendors selling everything from wonderful art books to brushes and paints. They announced that they would do it again at Asilomar, close to Big Sur and Carmel next year...dates to be announced. The PAPA group presented Roy Rose and Stephen Doherty with lifetime achievement awards. I was honored to get 2nd place in the 2012 Plein Air Salon Contest...Eileenne Basa got first and Josh Eliot got third. I would highly recommend it if you can go next year..never a dull moment and a lot to learnd and be inspired with...along with making some really great friends and meet some real fine master artists!

Hi Ned,

It sure exceeded my expectations and am putting it on the calendar as if it were Christmas!  Counting down to Asilomar!

Hope to see you up here in the GNW and to paint alongside you and fellow buddies like Kowalski, Sowa and Kitts.  And hey, don't order a Sprite!

HI Ned....it was a wonderful event indeed.  Your demo with Camille was fabulous.  You had the folks in stitches and your paintings where gorgeous.  All the lectures and demos and the two days painting where just perfect...even the cold rainy day was a great challenge.  All this and Elvis and a 100 pc marching band.   That Eric Rhodes knows how to through a party.     See you at Asilomar...cant wait.

Thanks Ned for the report.  I so wanted to attend, but cost was a little prohibitive at the time. Seeing that it is in California next year, I am going to start saving right now and plan to attend.  Listening to established artists, and watching them work is priceless. Can't wait to hear what the dates and actual location is.

Hey no fair you got to go! Now I'm really feeling left out! Ha
