SEPA Plein air painters is based in the south-east of Ireland.

In addition to regular paintouts throughout the year, the group also hosts an annual plein air festival called "Art in the Open" which has become Europe's largest. It is an open entry (ie. unjuried) event with 7 days of painting at a variety of locations - coastal scenes, harbours, historic castles, rural villages with cottages and in small towns around Wexford County. There are also half-day workshops on location with some of the best plein air artists, plus life-drawing, critique sessions in the evening plus BBQ, music and other social events.

Participants may submit up to 3 works for exhibition and awards although display of work is by selection panel and not guaranteed.

Tony: I am really impressed at the group activity and your management of the site. This morning, I took a more "serious" look directly at the Art in the Open site, and was delighted to be able to get a real cheap travel ticket to each of the various venues for last year and this year. I felt I was there at each of these stimulating sites for painting, sticky with paint and weighed down (or buoyed up) with the problem solving efforts required for plein air work AND plenty of craic-a vital ingredient.

It is a great website.

Cant wait for this years festival. Always great fun to take part in and great to see such a diverse body of work - all created in one weekend. I love seeing the town dotted with artists working away at their easels - there is always such a good atmosphere and comradeship between the artists. The event is really well run which adds to the enjoyment.

Since I will be attending this event this year, I hope it is OK if I join this group. Suzie and I will really be looking fwd to escaping Atlanta's August heat. We are really excited about coming to visit Ireland.

It's becoming an event, where the world "stands still", and beats to a different drum (brush to canvas)!

We are all very proud of our festival and  really looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones. See you all soon!!

Three Irishmen are sitting in the pub window seat, watching the front door of the brothel over the road.

The local Methodist pastor appears, and quickly goes inside.

"Would you look at that!" says the first Irishman.

"Didn't I always say what a bunch of hypocrites they are?"

No sooner are the words out of his mouth than a Rabbi appears at the door, knocks, and goes inside.

"Another one trying to fool everyone with pious preaching and stupid hats!"

They continue drinking their beer roundly condemning the vicar and the rabbi when they see their own Catholic priest knock on the door.

"Ah, now dats sad." says the third Irishman, one of the girls must have died."

Hi Don. Getting us into the mood already? Keep 'em coming (but don't forget to save a couple for Art in the Open).

I don't usually fwd these jokes that go viral, but this I really liked. I usually do my own material anyway just fooling around.

I looked at some of these links, but I wish they were a bit more complimentary to the locations... for instance for Kilmore Quay, which is a great spot to paint, showed NO fishing boats... just a very lovely cottage and three people what looked like they were freezing. Or the wonderful food... fish and chips...

ok, I didn't read it, I just looked at the pictures.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the feedback ..we'll work on that.

On any of those pages, have a look for the link : "Photos of SEPA's Paintout" ... Your right about the great fish and chips too....making me hungry now!!
