It is an open entry (ie. unjuried) event with 7 days of painting at a variety of locations - coastal scenes, harbours, historic castles, rural villages with cottages and in small towns around Wexford County. There are also half-day workshops on location with some of the best plein air artists, plus life-drawing, critique sessions in the evening plus BBQ, music and other social events.

Participants may submit up to 3 works for exhibition and awards although display of work is by selection panel and not guaranteed.

I know right... your so lucky. I have to really search for a good fish and chips place. I know of a great one in a town called Conyers but it is on the other side of Atlanta about an hours away. They make there own chips too. Have you had an early spring there? We are about a month ahead of ourselves here with flower blooms, etc. Today was 83°!

March in Ireland was the second warmest on record ..reaching 22.2 celcius (71.6F)!!

That's close to our summer temperatures . I saw one of your garden paintings, with all your plants in full bloom...that's really unusual weather for you guys too?

This week temperatures have dropped back down to 4-5 degrees celcius (39.2 F)..In Scotland England this week, it went from warm summer temperatures to Artic conditions overnight, with heavy snow!!!

So it's back to our "thermal underwear", The lawnmower has gone back into the shed, and we'll be eating more of our comfort foods...(including fish'n'chips) :))

Signed-up and heading to Ireland for Art in the Open 2013 will be workshop artists including: Ned MuellerLori PutnamValerie CraigAntti RautiolaGordon Fowler and Leon Holmes. Of  course there will be many more besides. Are you coming?

Marc DalessioJoe Paquet and pastel artist Margaret Dyer will also be among the artists coming to Art in the Open 2013 and you can take workshops with all of the above. In fact, Ned Mueller and Margaret Dyer will be staying on to run more intensive 3-day workshops after this year's festival. Whoo, whoo!

Dont forget Don Maier is hosting a fun competition to win a week for two in White's Hotel, Wexford. 10 weeks for the competition deadline so tell your friends and be in it!

Hello Everybody,  looking forward to jumping over the pond with my workshop students and musician friends this May.  I have been to Ireland many times and always look forward to returning.   We will be staying at the Boghill Centre in County Clare, arriving on May 24-31st.   I  have been in touch with Diedre Shanny and she is helping to get the word out.  I would like to invite the Plein Eire Group to join us for a day of painting together!  We are tentatively thinking of getting together on Wednesday, May 29th.  We could meet at the Boghill Centre around 9:00, paint for 3 hours or so and come back to the centre for lunch (to be purchased) or you could bring your own bag lunch. At this time I will lead an very informal critique where we can all share our work and talk a little bit about ourselves.  This is a great learning and fun experience to see how others work and  their goals.  We may want to extend the day for an afternoon painting and a little evening music.  Our musicians will have a session in the lovely octagonal room.  It should be a great day of painting, sharing and great "craic" Please let me know if you are interested in getting together with us!   I can't wait to meet you!  All details of the Ireland/USA Paint Out Gathering will be forthcoming.

It was fun looking at all the fine work submitted for this competition. Very difficult to pick a winner. For those of you who will be going to Ireland to attend, you will find information from Tony Robinson's site and several videos here on pleinairartists.

If my health were better I would be there with you.

Right on Don! Tony and the group that make this possible do such a fine job. I want to add my congratulations to Sonya on her win. If I weren't going to be in Spain at the same moment, I would be back at this competition for sure. Next year, I hope to be there again.

I know this is going to be an amazing time or all of you.  Have a wonderful wonderful time and I wish you fair weather.  I just got back from teaching my workshop  at the Boghill Centre in Clare then for the first time go a chance to go west to Connemara.  Amazing. I have always loved the south of Ireland though and one of these days I want to get back to Wexford.  Love it there.  Slan, Jeanean
