PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Toby Reid and I are discussing a paint out at Chateau Elan. Toby is talking to someone from Chateau Elan to set up a date most likely in May 2010. He is also trying to get a date that will work to have a show of the plein air work created at this paint out. But as most of you know, the dates are usually set up at least a year in advance, unless someone has to back out of a time slot.

I have posted this as a discussion instead of it being mixed in with the "general" comments for this Network. There is also the same discussion topic for the Southeastern Pastel Society and the Georgia Plein Air groups. I think we will set up something in the "Events" tab for the paint out when the dates are finalized.

Comments are welcome!

Marsha, Sounds like a great opportunity. I would love to be a part of this. Again all I need is a bit of advanced notice which I know we will have. If I can assist in any way let me know.

Ginny
I think this is great Marsha, avoid the May 21-23 for the SPS workshop.
Yes, Sally, we already talked about that weekend being SPS.
Toby Reid got the OK yesterday for the Mothers Day weekend for a paint out at Chateau Elan. The person Toby was talking to made a point to say that they would not be providing anything....... (copied from Toby's message to me) -- "not like I was asking for anything other than permission to paint on the property.
I am going to call him up again soon and clairfy alittle more of what we do. I get the feeling that he really doen't know. "

And . . . from Toby . . . "Could I get you to put out a feeler with the 3 groups and let them know that we have that Sat. and Sun. Any suggestions on times? I will find out where he wants us to park too and if there will be open sitting on Sat, and Sunday at the Winery if anybody wants to buy lunch. I think that the main Inn will be reservation. No mention about a show but I will talk again to him about that. "

So, we have a Saturday and Sunday in May 8 and 9 -- there should be loads of people there for the Mother's Day weekend and a good time to be painting there. I usually suggest a starting time of no later than 9:00 a.m.

We need to start a list of those artists that are participating. Please post here in the discussion. I will also have this same message on the Southeastern Pastel Society group and the Georgia Plein Air group. We can create and "event" for that tab also. Maybe the sign up will be on that "event" tab -- Don, what would be best? There will also be information on other sites about this paint out -- so here on pleinairartists.ning.com will not be the only place people will hear of this paint out and possibly sign up.

We will put more information up as we learn it. But join us!!! Let's have a good presence.
Hi Marsha, please include me in the list of participation in this event. I had a show there years ago and the staff and guests were very gracious. The event will need some advertising on your own though. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Thanks Durinda. Glad you will join us. Toby did tell me we would need to do everything. I have put it here in several group discussions. I will have it on my web site, the Pastel Society will send out stuff. I hope to get it to the Atlanta Artist Center group, and the Blue Ridge Mountains Association. I hope I can get each artist to use whatever means they have to discuss and get information out there. We need someone that knows the press somehow to get something out. If you know anything we can do, please let me or Toby Reid now. Thanks.
Here is information that Toby Reid has sent to me for posting on the event site. I will also post this information on the Georgia Plein Air Group, Southeastern Pastel Society and the Eastern US Artist Network groups. You will also find this on the "Event" tab and look for Chateau Elan Event.

Here are the details for the paintout at Chateau Elan - May 8 and 9 from 9 to 5 or later if the Artist wishes.

Go north on I-85 towards Braselton and you will see signs and the Inn on the left.

We will park behind the Winery. The Winery is the building straight in front of you as you turn into the property. Take your first right after entering the property towards the Inn and keep following around until you are behind the Winery.

Toby Reid will bring a table and a clip board for signing in to put in the parking lot.

The Inn (white table cloth) and the Winery (casual) both serve food if anybody wants. It might be a good idea on Mothers Day to check at the Inn if they are doing reservations.

There are many restaurants turning left out of the property and a Grocery store. There is one gas station ( BP ) but I would not use it as it is very expensive per gallon.

Chateau Elan is not providing anything for us, except to be on their property; so everybody needs to bring what they will need for the days. There are restrooms in the Winery, Spa and the Inn. I don't know if the Stables have restrooms but I would guess that they do. There is another property there called Legends at Chateau Elan that has gates with codes to get in and we have not contacted them as it is a porivate home and golf course division.

Please be courtious to the golfers, Spa and tennis folks that will be there.
Hi everyone, please remember the Chateau Elan paint out is this Saturday and Sunday. Let me know if you are planning to be there. I have sent a message to those that said "attending" or "might attend" on the Chateau Elan Event page. So, if you received one of those messages, please only respond once! Hope to see you there.
