Has anyone tried painting for inside their car? How did it work for you?

Hi Carol

Thought I'd join. I grew up in Independence, Kansas and still have family there. I come back once or twice a year and sometimes get to paint. - Charlotte

We are up in Merriam, Johnson County. My 15 seconds of fame comes from having done 2 or more, 1/4 sheet, watercolor or pen & wash pieces in each of the 105 counties of Kansas. I'm currently at about 70% on doing a 3rd. Yes, I do paint in the car when it rains and I have a messy car to prove it. Have fun, Dave

Just home from nine days painting in Western KS. I did 35 pieces, all 1/4 sheet water colors. I now have three or more per county. It is hard to say who is the most tired, me or my Honda. It was fun.

Just back in from N.W. KS where I did 21 oils on 12 x 16 Gessoboards. I have currently 24 counties done with oils this April... Well on the way to painting all the counties a 4th time. I had weather trouble and did 3 in my car and many with the easel tied down by bungee cords and dog screws. Actually finished one fast piece while in sleet storm.  Have fun,  I am!  Dave

Limited to four or five artists or photographers.

Stay with Tom and Charlotte Wharton in a private residence with other artists and paint/photograph one of the country's finest art retreats. Join generations of artists have been drawn to Gloucester- Rockport, in particular for its uncommonly magical light that has inspired artists, like Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, Edward Hopper, William Morris Hunt, Aldro T. Hibbard, Anthony Thieme, Paul Strisik, W. Lester Stevens, Harry A. Vincent, Emile A. Gruppé, among many others. Visit, paint, photograph, and sight see where these Masters traveled, lived, and created their art. Places like Gloucester, Rockport, Bearskin Neck, the famous Motif #1, Pigeon Cove, the Rocky Neck Art Colony, among others.

You might run into some of the area's new Masters: John Caggiano, Charles J. Movalli and Dale Ratcliff, Christine and Donald Mosher, Don Stone, Marilyn Swift, Thomas and T. M. Nicholas, David P. Curtis, Stapleton Kearns, Charles Gruppe, Betty Lou Schlemm, and scores of others. - At least visit their art galleries.

The Art Retreat is unstructured with no instruction. Charlotte Wharton will be painting the Cape Ann area, visiting and photographing the local scenes, socializing and talking art with the the artists, and generally doing what an artist should do when spending four days in Gloucester and Rockport. Individuals are free to participate or follow their own pursuits.

The Retreat starts at about noon time on Wednesday until about 4 PM on Saturday. Charlotte Wharton will be available starting on Wednesday evening after she finishes teaching her portrait workshop at the North Shore Arts Association.

Pictures and information about the house are at:

Anybody that has an interest in art or photography is welcome to stay with my husband and me at any time during 4 - Day Artist Retreat. One day, two days,4 days, whatever. It is on a first come, first accepted basis with priority given to those who agree to longer stays.

My husband is the go-to person (go-fer) for any issues or problems. He will also pick up and deliver people from Logan, Manchester, Worcester, Providence, and Hartford Airports, or anywhere in New England, if necessary.

The cost of the Four Day Retreat is $120, including all meals.*

Sleeping space is at a first come, first served basis. Any space should be considered "cheap and cheerful". In other words, this is not the Ritz Carlton. Bring your own linen.

* Individuals who wish to stay for less than the three nights, the cost is $50 per night, meals included, space available.

My husband, Tom, will be responsible for preparing the meals. This will consist of breakfast and dinner plus other stuff. He will also prepare take away lunches on request. Those who miss any meals under this option will be donating to the greater good of all of us. The plan is to have no surplus.

If you are interested, email my husband or me at: charlotte@charlottewharton or message me through Facebook, Twitter, or Linked In. Telephone: 508-425-6719

PLEASE - only really serious people follow up on this.
