Sharing is good. Let's share the special spots that we love. Put the general location in caps, so we can scan back through the entries when we plan a trip. Also, upload a shot of a painting you did there, if you have one.
Does everyone know about Arroyo Hondo out of Taos? It's a wonderful carved gorge that offers lovely lighting changes through the day. The river is wide and slow and draws as many fishermen as artists. It's a little remote, so set your GPS and keep driving. There's a nice little stream on the road that approaches, but it's sometimes hard to find a space to pull over. I was there in the spring when the trees were just budding out.
One block below the main drag in Virginia City, Nevada are the ramshackle buildings of the old China Town. There is a beat up buggy, and a beat up old hearse buggy with a coffin inside. This is a plein air I did of this. There are plenty of other unique scenes in this town...run down mines, people strolling around in period costume (even a Mark Twain clone), an old graveyard, churches, hospital, boardwalk main drag, a train you can ride half way to Carson City on... Plein Air Paradise!!! It is just six miles from where I live.
Been there! Ted Goerschner used to have workshops in Virginia City. Great subjects all around. Loved walking through the old neighborhoods and finding such charming and paintable subjects, like the old silver barron's mansions. I remember a great painting that Marilyn Simandle did of one.
