PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Courthouse, Wayne County, IL

I started on this painting at 7:15 this morning. 45 minutes sketch time. 2 1/2 hours paint time. I was set up across the street where several people stopped to visit. The newspaper came by to interview me and take some photos. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something about this painting that bothers me. It might be the absence of dramatic light. The day was cold and overcast. I tried to brighten up the painting by pushing the colors.
I added the person walking after I got back to the studio. I just felt it needed some life in it.

The person and their walking posture say more about the day than the sky which seems wrong for the lighting.
