An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location
22" x 11&1/2" pastel on sanded paper.
Holly hocks in the shade of the house, late afternoon. These flowers came out before the beetles had a chance to devour them, but there were biting flies on my ankles!
Comment by Cecile Hines on June 9, 2012 at 2:19pm Yeah! Good for you, the immediacy adds to the verve.
Comment by Suzanne Shedosky on June 9, 2012 at 3:46pm Cecile~ Thank-you! Just love the hocks and am going out to paint some in oil while they are still lush~ .....with some bug repellant~ geeze.
Comment by Cecile Hines on June 9, 2012 at 4:25pm Try "Bullfrog" even comes with UV protection, used it in my new yard here in Florida and damn it did work. Those Hollyhocks were always my Mom's favorite, I love them too.
Comment by Suzanne Shedosky on June 10, 2012 at 8:39am Thanks Cecile~ I've heard that it's pretty tough stuff. I get a slight reaction from DEET, so I've been going back to Skin So Soft.....I put some of that in canola oil for my horses ears and face and myself. Been experimenting with garlic leaves infused in oil, too....keeps flies and pesky humans away~;0)......going to try catnip, too. We'll see.
Comment by Cecile Hines on June 10, 2012 at 11:05am Was told by the previous owner that catnip sprinkled in shelves keeps away palmetto bugs, works, but makes the cupboard look like aging stoners live here.
Comment by Suzanne Shedosky on June 13, 2012 at 9:22am Cecile~ HA HA HA! That's funny!.......I had visions of hordes of cats following me! (but that's normal in my house anyway~)
Comment by Cecile Hines on June 14, 2012 at 4:19pm Hummm I DO have a white cat that I have been very popular with since we moved.
