An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Dawn Fire

Painted from my imagination as a demonstration painting for groups touring a local art museum. Maples turn this color in October-November in Georgia. It is a spectacular display and perfect for artists to portray.

Gary, what a fabulous painting. Love the color play and the composition. Amazing that you painted it from your imagination. Wish I could do that!

Thanks, Susan. I don't know where these ideas come from, the images just emerge. I do a value sketch and work from that. This one used a gator board support covered in red tinted Golden pumice/gesso mix brushed on in random strokes with a cheap brush. Sparkling bits of red show through on the finished painting. Thanks for your compliment.

Hi Gary, like the painting. It also amazes me you can come up with this just from imagination. Or . . . did you have several references? Just a question. When I just paint from my imagination, the painting is a little "too high definition" and I must learn to tone it down a notch!

Thanks, Marsha. Images just fly out of my head. I can't explain it. Then I just go with the flow and watch my hand at work. Everything is intuitive based on my experiences. I know it sounds weird but it seems to work for me. I was on your site recently, I love your work and you just get better and better as time goes by. You are my heroine!
