An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location
6x8" oil on board. http://georgierey.blogspot.com.
The day before I went to a spot I had seen whilst on a hike. I was sitting on a ledge on a mountain looking down on a deep space. Afterwards I asked myself 'why do I always find myself perched up a mt on a ledge of rock above a void' It must be the space I like and want to paint. So, I went back to my usual place at the 7 cascades and instead of looking down at the pools I stepped back a bit so I couldn't see them and painted the valleys and back, the void. I did 3 8x6" oils, one after the other. At home the next day I blew this one up to 42x35" working quickly and cleanly. You can see it on the artistes de studio site or my blog. This is to explain HOW a painting develops, it takes a lot of thought, persistence and trail and error. The best advice my teacher gave me was to 'Keep going back'. What's more is that every painting has a different way of evolving, we have to find it.

Comment by Georgina Rey on June 10, 2012 at 9:26am Hi Sharron, thanks for the comment..like you, I work quickly doing one after the other and the last one comes from deep inside..I don't always like them, they are a bit messy and clumsy looking but maybe they will develop as I get more experienced..but I feel that this is the way to work and I feel very satisfied after! Pleasure is more important than sales and ego.
Comment by Sharron Boxenbaum on June 10, 2012 at 1:06pm I think it would be fun to paint along side one another Georgina! I think we are like-minded in some ways.
