11X14 acrylic, #12 brush. Smoke from forest fires was drifting into Cle Elum Valley. I sat on the back of my suv with the door up for shade. Quite hot today & I painted this around noon.

Hi June, I like your handling of the foreground grasses. I am thinking about acrylics, which I have no experience with. I am thinking about open acrylic to start with. Do you have any thoughts, recommendations, for me before I take the plunge ? You experience would be appreciated.

Robert, I do like the longer drying acrylics for plein air. I like the heavy body acrylics for studio work. I am still learning myself how to handle them. Where I live, the wind dries out the paint faster than the heat. I like the Golden Open brand, and one of my painting buddies uses Atelier brand that requires the use of a retardant. I hope to take the plunge someday into oils. I think I would like the buttery consistancy.

Thanks June for your reply. I find that in Florida oils almost dry over night. On the hottest days I have had to use Linseed oil as a retarder, but only outside not in the studio. Your painterly style is so good that I don't think oils will give you any trouble.
