An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location
Again, all these paintings are 8x10" on birch panel that was sanded & coated with multiple coats of shellac.
This was the very first full moon painting I've ever done. The night was just too perfect to waste sleeping! Rex Beach is right on Lake Michigan, about 3.5 miles from my house. It's possible to drive right down to the water. I usually don't do this because people sometimes get stuck in the sand. But I didn't feel like lugging my stuff all the way from the parking lot. Just used low gear & held my breath! Like I'd said in an earlier description ("Full Moon and Cloud"), I'd pre-mixed a dark and medium tone in the studio before I went out. I had a flashlight with me but only had to turn it on a very few times. I'd have liked showing the moon sparking on the water, but it was at the wrong angle. I didn't see any water sparkling. If I'd gone out at 5 AM, it would have been in the right position for that. There were a few clouds passing over and I loved the way they looked, so that's what I painted. It was an enchanted evening! I'm going out for more full moon paintings in the future!
Comment by Lynne Haines on November 16, 2011 at 1:11pm Amazing. I mean you amaze me. You go tramping around with men and paint! Me too. I love it. But I especially admire your work, really! There are a few plein air painters that really are good, in my opinion. You are one of my two favorite oil/acrylic painters! Please consider coming to stay with us in our lake cabin and paint the Lake Roosevelt area next year. I plan on organizing a few plein air events. I'm still trying to learn iMovie to post the video of September's Plein Air Artist Retreat which was fabulous. Just 10 or so of us, all good artists in a terriffic location for three days. Heaven.
Comment by Margie Guyot on November 16, 2011 at 2:07pm Thanks for the compliments & invite, Lynne! It's really next to impossible for me to travel. I've got 4 cats, 10 chickens & 10 rabbits that need daily care. Waaaaaaah! Good thing I did lots of traveling years ago.
Comment by Lynne Haines on November 16, 2011 at 2:10pm Then I will just have to come and paint with you! I know how to take care of all those critters and will work for my supper. I really mean it. I would love to paint with you. How about it?
Comment by Margie Guyot on November 16, 2011 at 2:30pm Oh, Good GOD -- I'd have to spend a week (or two) cleaning/weeding out the guest room. Housework is NOT my favorite thing to do! I'm kind of a hermit.....!
Comment by Lynne Haines on November 16, 2011 at 2:36pm Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to terrify you. I'll take that as a declined invitation, chuckle. No worries.
