I love your work Penny, and really miss being able to paint in Yosemite on the weekends. That is why I moved to the bay area in 1975. Just a suggestion on this piece and others using this palette. A spot of orange, perhaps at your focal point, would look fantastic and would be the third color in a secondary triadic color scheme of purple, green and orange. Perhaps a hiker in an orange jacket or a dead spruce tree that has turned a rust color in the background. Just a thought... hope you don't mind the unsolicited critique. I am not suggesting that this painting is at all lacking and would not want you to paint anything you did not see in the scene unless you wanted to. I'm just in a mood.

Hi Donald

Thanks so much for a critique.  I am here to learn!!!  You are so right about a little orange.  In the other piece I did at the same time, I did put a little orange in the alders, then promptly took it out.  I love this palette, but it needs something.  Interesting.  Please critique all my work -- any time.  This is what I want . . Thanks again.  If you folks ever come to California (and Yosemite) call me and we will paint!  I just got home again from another day in paradise . . . the spring runoff is running everywhere, even on the roads . . . spectacular.

Thanks JoHnna.  I have a solo show coming up in Sept. and I'm painting a lot these days.  One painting kind of feeds on another, if you know what I mean.
