PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Smith Gilbert Nursery 1of 5

This was the first and roughest painting I did. I had scouted the location a week earlier and liked the shapes and distance instantly. When I started the building and foreground were in deep shadow. I really liked the fence line which at first you may think stops you, but in fact carries your eye back to the bonsai garden. Within 30 minutes of getting started though the sun was right in my face. Not what I had expected. I'm usually pretty good at tracking the sun and the direction it's going to move. Not on this one! In-spite of the difficulties, this one won me an award at the event and some very complementary comments from Bill Davidson who judged the show. We like money, Yeah!!!!
