Wonderful drama here!
This is OMG beautiful!
Magnificent. Incredible plein air work. And it is huge.
Quite an admirable feat en plein aire! I just love this!!
......an eye-catcher !
Beautiful piece Rusty. I am guessing that this is not plein air because of the size and the finished look it has. Did you in fact complete this on site?
I have painted this spot several times on different occassions, and the first time, a woman was doing a modern dance on this rock as I painted a large full sheet watercolor. I have always referred to this as "Dancing Rock" and was not aware it had a name. I guess I should read signs more.
I guess I violated policy by publishing a studio piece. My bad, won't happen again. I actually painted Moran Point en plein air four times on my last trip, each time in different light. One of those times this huge storm blew through. Had to take refuge in my car to finish the painting. A bit of history, Moran Point is named after artist/explorer Thomas Moran who did a series of famous watercolors of the Grand Canyon that he, along with other explorers, presented to Congress hoping they would see fit to make the canyon a national park. The fact the Grand Canyon exists today as a national park is due in large part to the paintings Moran did during his expeditions there.
Good eye, Don. Yes, it is hard to resist showing our work when we are excited about it, Rusty. I get that. My sincere hope is that we artists can educate our potential patrons about the differences between PA and SA. Why? Because art in general has lost it's appeal to non-artists. Our market has gone away. People can't tell good art from bad art because they aren't artists. They don't know enough about art anymore to be interested enough to lay out any amount of money. They don't get what's involved in creating art the old fashioned ways - by painting it. If we can set clear guidelines between PA and SA it piques their curiosity and they become interested; they become potential clients, patrons of the arts.
Rusty, Very nice lighting. I'm going up there for 3 days next week. Should be more weather like this.
