An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Summer Day at the Lake 11x14

This is from a weekend at my brother-in-law's lake in northern Indiana in 2007. He has since passed away so this painting holds a special place in our home.

Thank you, Dave. I had an epiphany moment a year ago after years of frustration when I realized I should be pulling influences from the eras of art that I love the most, being 17th, 18th century dutch, Hudson River and French & American Impressionism. I really sucked at pure impressionism so combining elements of all 3 seemed logical. I love the dark mysterious elements of the Dutch, the warm luminous qualities of Hudson River and the treatment of edges, values and the idea of primary, secondary and tertiary zones of a painting taught by impressionists. Fun stuff! Thanks for noticing!!
