San Luis Valley Dunes looking south?

Sure is. the painting took three days, but I camped for a week and hiked the dunes. I never thought walking in sand would be such a challenge.

You've got a nice one here. I've spent a lot of time in the valley and have tried painting the dunes several times but have never been able to come up with a successful piece - something about the scale and the unfamiliarity and strangeness of the place makes it difficult for me.

Thank you. Can't wait to go back. I did a smaller one looking the other direction but wasn't happy with it. I tried to fit to much on the canvas and it ended up looking smashed.

This is a great view. It caught my eye because I live in the San Luis Valley and paint the dunes a lot. This is a great view.
There was a fire (maybe you know this) in Medano pass that burned for a good part of the summer and put a smokey haze over everything. A real drag.
If you haven't already taken the Zapata Falls hike- the views of the dunes from there are fabulous.
