Comment by Ed Cahill on July 12, 2012 at 9:18am Your skies have changed since your session with Roos. Great job on a tough subject.
Comment by Leon Holmes on July 12, 2012 at 9:34am Thanks Ed, Yes her work has inspired me some what but truly the inspiration is in the sky itself. I love and always have loved painting the clouds, I guess that is what I like in Roos works. Noticeably the skis here in Europe have a different light, they are heavier in their volume than those I am used to in Australia and of all the subject matter I am seeing here in Europe, The clouds are the one I am most inspired to master.... I am failing more than I am having success :) IT always helps when there is something of interest to paint on the ground too and it is the bringing of these two elements together that I find is the true test if it's working or not. I have learnt a lot this year through experimenting, and my work is changing (sometimes a little more than I want) but painting is about the process and the challenges we face. I am having a great time with the brush at present. Thanks for commenting. Really appreciate it :) Happy painting :)
Comment by Ed Cahill on July 12, 2012 at 9:55am It's great you are getting the opportunity to stay in Europe and paint for such along time. Colley Whisson visits here quite often and says the same thing about the sky in Australia. Similar out west in the US, I think it's just a drier atmosphere and less trees, "Big Sky" as they call it. At least you should be comfortable with the sheep!
Comment by Leon Holmes on July 12, 2012 at 10:01am Yes the sheep were a blessing. :) I really miss the rural subject matter. You can still create a romantic painting that has the feel of maybe it was painted years before if you get far enough away from the city, But these sheep were in the heart of Munich. Awesome :) I will be painting them again before I head home in September :) Right now I am in the Studio for a few weeks so unless i get itchy feet, no plein air for a few weeks :(... but off to AITO in August :) can't wait. All the best my friend. and happy painting :)
