"Coppicing"

I came across these young workers in a nearby wood yesterday. Nice to know that these old woodland management methods are still being carried on!Wish I had seen them earlier as it was ark 40 minutes after setting up!

Great perspective. I can put myself there and feel getting warmer as I step over the logs as I approach.

Terrific work! Strong story telling, good movement in the figures, effective limited palette.

I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that it was the short time you had left to paint this, that kept you so well focused and efficient with your brush strokes as not to do any more than necessary to capture the scene. This is a really fine piece. One of those times when your happen to be in the right place at a perfect time. The late in the day lighting helps simplify the scene too. Bright sunlight would make this a totally different painting. Congratulations.

Thanks everyone! Don, you are probably right, but I normally like to have a few minutes to plan and visualise the finished painting before I start but this was very much a case of dashing along and seeing where it took me. Only having 14x11 board with me didn't help and before anyone mentions ignetting it did cross my mind but not for long enough to make any impact!
