Comment by Tony Robinson on March 8, 2011 at 6:54am I am greatly humbled. I think the surface you paint on can help with some of these effects. I use claessens oil primed linen 15 double primed or #66 for larger work. Though I have a long way to go but these surfaces help.

If any of you would like to paint the same view (amongst other things!) here's a chance to win 8 nights hotel accommodation and entry to Art in the Open 2012 (30th July - 7th August). It is open to any member of this site. Don is allowing the festival to run this competition for the second year. Its a bit of fun and there's no catch, other than you have to get here under your own steam.
