Young Bull Grazing

I painted this watercolor alla prima of a young bull grazing near the shore of a cove called Bandelundavik on the southeast coast of Gotland. The farmer lets these bulls out once a day to graze. My father-in-law had a summer house there that we used to stay in. That's his fathers fishing shed in the distance.

this is a very fine painting...eloquent, gestural...having just enough of what is essential to fool the senses on the presence of light, form...

very nice!

I prefer your more representative works!

Lynne,

I like representative work too, as long as it isn't unimaginative and boring, with more attention paid to unimportant detail that detracts from the necessary elements of good design and creative expression. Does that help?

Yes, thanks for sharing your perspective with me.  In my opinion Art and the act of creating Art is a very private experience really.  I was only stating my preference in viewing Fine Art.  I can paint as abstract as the best of them, but don't often, because it doesn't challenge me.  I like a mystery.  Watercolors are very difficult to control but not very mysterious when you've worked with them for awhile.  You can expect happy accidents and they look lovely in various combinations etc etc.  But the act of attempting something difficult still appeals to me.  Please, by all means enjoy your painting - be it abstract, or filled with detail - it's the act that's important - rarely the outcome.

I find that the challenge is in using color and form to design creative expressions through the use of the elements and principles of art that have been established and explored by artists that came before me. I enjoy using these theories and techniques in my own personal way to express my emotional responses to the world around me. Simply trying to accurately  report a lot of detailed information without creativity doesn't interest me.

Me either.  That certainly wasn't what I was suggesting.  Can you give me an example of one of the elements or principles of art you enjoy using most?
