Instead of going hunting or playing ball, my dad would take me sketching (that is what we called plein air). The results of my "sketches" never satisfied me artistically, but always gave me satisfaction for the memories that resulted from sitting and looking at where I was for a half-hour or so.
Now, ready to retire from a half dozen careers, I'm taking my painting more seriously.. at least I am painting a lot more. And enjoying the whole process and product as well.
