Welcome, Darrell Baschak!

I am a self taught artist in fact I jokingly tell people I'm "home schooled" when people ask where I learned how to paint!  When I think about it I have been painting for over 35 years now and I still get excited when I learn something new, (or remember something I forgot)!  Painting out of doors really is something I enjoy very much, as long as I can remember I have always preferred to be outside doing something.  As anyone who paints plein air knows you cannot beat just being there absorbing your surroundings, artwork done in this manner far surpasses taking a photo.  I live in central Saskatchewan now but for many years I lived in northern Manitoba which is Canadian Shield country mixed up with large expanses of Boreal forest.  This country I credit for informing me as an artist and I continually draw from that experience when I am in the creative process.  I am primarily an oil painter but I do love other mediums, such as pastel and watercolour.  Currently I am not represented by any gallery, fact is I haven't ever been successful in finding a gallery who is interested in me.  Go figure!  On a positive note I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists based in Vancouver, BC and I am also a member of the prestigious and long standing Manitoba Society of Artists.  Thank you for visiting my site.

Thank you, Darrell.   Your paintings have me easily drawn in, because the landscapes and around you, and climate,  must be similar to this area of ND.  I think I see a sincere enjoyment of the land around you.  I like the texture.

Thank  you Darell Lynne Haines spoke to me about the site! I have to 'confess' I am a studio artist. That is why there is NO WORK of mine displayed here. I was at the KdiamondK ranch last week visiting when Lynne called about the up and coming plein air artist event planned in Republic Washington this upcoming September. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to to humble myself and try my hand at at plein air art!

Thank you Darrell. Maine is so fine. I could easily spend the whole summer painting up there. If you go, check out the Portland Museum of Art, The Farnsworth Museum and Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland. I'm a big fan of Maine painter Connie Hayes, who has a wonderful book called " Borrowed Views."
