Delilah... This is why I don't use the term "Plein Air"; which has come to mean only ... painting outdoors! i use the term DFN, Direct From Nature, as it signifies precisely what it is... and I apply it to a number of various techniques that I've developed over the years... Not just my watercolor painting. I Sketch... I photograph... and I paint... "Directly From Nature"... which means "not" from photos back in my studio! Although I do that as well... my DFN work is directly from Nature. These were 5 minute portraits done from live subjects... not photos... posing for me in various locations all over the world. One of them was in the streets of Phalgam, Kashmir. Another on the border of Tibet... and several more from people who were attending various one-man exhibitions that I've had. These sketches were from these live subjects posing for me for a few minutes. I do this all over the world... and whenever I do it... whether outdoors or indoors... as long as I am doing it from a "live" subject... posed or unposed... I refer to these as DFN... "Direct from Nature" rather than from photographic reference, magazines, or books. And in this case... even if the sketch was done in an art gallery, during a grand opening of one of my exhibitions... it is technically in "Plein Air"... as it is done from living subjects directly in a matter of minutes.
Sweet as my son would say!!!!
