Artists Statement
The elusive mystery of light is my favorite subject. Sunlight, ordinary and yet extraordinary, shapes my paintings. The evocative half-light of sunset, twilight, and dawn transport the viewer to realms beyond the visible. Whether painted on location or in the studio these landscapes go beyond mere representation and impression and delve into the deeper streams and spiritual pulse that sustains all things.

Lately, I've been reading a lot about the twin subjects of pricing artwork (a subject for artists) and reasons to buy artwork. Pricing paintings is a task for the artist and for the art gallery. Understanding why it's worth it to invest in a piece of original art is important for everyone.

Plein Air Sketching
I truly enjoy sketching outdoors. Actually I think I like it better than painting. I think that is because I find it more relaxing. The work is personal, for my own nourishment and growth as an artist. I don't expect a finished product and people rarely hang over your shoulder to see your work , unlike when you set up an easel, which always draws a crowd.

A New Name for my Blog
Today I changed the name of my blog. My blog just had it's third anniversary on Wed. May 13th. It began as The Painting a Day Project to feature my small daily paintings. I had another blog, Art&Life, for my plein air paintings. After 2 1/2 years it got too crazy to maintain both, plus I didn't know where to show my studio landscapes. So I left a message re-directing folks from Art & Life to The Painting a Day Project and combined everything there.
