An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location
A representational oil painter, Jeannie Breeding draws her inspiration from her love of the outdoors and travel. Whether she’s at home in Colorado or somewhere on foreign soil, she’s never without her camera, capturing special moments in time for her paintings. She’s traveled to six continents to photograph scenes for her paintings. Also a plein air painter, Jeannie can frequently be found outdoors painting on location.
Jeannie earned her BS degree in art from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and her MAT degree in Southwest Studies (with an art emphasis) from Colorado College. After teaching art in Colorado Springs for 27 years, she now devotes the majority of her time to painting, hiking and traveling. She’s won numerous awards for her work and her paintings have been in national as well as international shows. She is a signature member Plein Air Artists Colorado, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and Women Artists of the West and an associate member of The American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America. Jeannie and her artwork were featured in the May, 2010 American Artist article “Rediscover Nature with Landscape Painting,” by M. Stephen Doherty. Her paintings have been included in 3 art Books by Kennedy Publications: The Best of America Landscape Artists, Vol. II, The Best of America Oil Artists, Vol. III and The Best of Worldwide Watermedia, Vol. II, all published in 2012.
"My goal, in each of my paintings, is to capture the fresh energy of a particular moment, my personal connection to a special place, and the feelings & sensations I felt at the time of my first encounter with the scene. I work loosely in the beginning, but then begin to refine the scene. I use layers of color, applying each brush stroke & swipe of the palette knife with confidence and a balance of spontaneity and intent, remaining open to the unexpected. I simplify the complexities of a scene to create my impressions of nature and the man made world, working to interpret reality rather than re-create it."
