SEPA Paint Out - Courtown Harbour, Co. Wexford 4/9/11

It was a "tale of two days", today, for our paint out in Courtown Harbour. The morning looked a little threatening, and, sure enough, by lunchtime we were racing for cover as the heavens opened!!The afternoon however saw some brightness on the horizon, and the sun came out to warm us!

This was only my…

SEPA "Mystery" Paintout - July 10th 2011. Wexford , Ireland

Well??...what's the mystery????

I believe a few nerves were present this morning, and some very tense body language, as SEPA gathered for our pre- festival "Mystery Paintout". There was nothing to be worried about really, we didn't have plein air bungy jump painting..or plein air while water…

Hi Karen.
Great to see you here.
This is really disciplined. economical work - and that sounds a rather crusty compliment but that's certainly not how its meant.

Someone pointed out to me its a good aim to limit the strokes I use. If I imagined I usually take, say, 1000 strokes to paint a picture, then I should try to do one in 400. Obviously you aren't going to count them but the principle is understood. I find that a very difficult thing to put into practice but you seem to have mastered it.

Karen,

Thanks for the wonderful comment. I live on an island so I see a lot of water ( just like the island of Ireland right?) I was lucky in getting the right colors, capturing the light under the boat, and being somewhat slapdash about the reflecting light off the waves. You know how it is... some work out great... other, well....

I agree with your comment here Tony.  I should try counting them!

I am far too slow and the main reason is I spend more time scraping off and repainting and need to work towards being able to get the right value, colour, temp, intensity in the first brushstroke.

Hi Karen

Thqanks for the reply.  I checked out Plein Eire and joined.  Looks like a good site.  Will have a  look at the others you have mentioned and see if I can connect with some other painters while I am there.

Thanks for the help.

Hey........I wanted to thank you again for the support.......I guess the back and forth , is kinda like getting food, and nourishes the painting soul.......we do our craft in isolation.and when a painting sells......usually we do not even meet the buyer.......so it is good for us artist to suppot each other......Good Painting To You!!.....Tom
