I love the adventure of outdoor painting, from the wild trip down the Colorado to the remote Selkirks in British Columbia, the Alaska Range, the old buildings of Umbria and Venice, the far regions of China on the Tibetan border. Painting is a means of opening my mind and spirit to the world in front of me. Being out in nature with my pochade box and my companions is to me the best of all possible worlds.

June--thank you. Yes that's from that walk-in camp ground at the side of the lake. When I was a girl I did the Salmon La Sac/Cooper Lake/Pete Lake/Waptus Lake and back to Salmon La Sac hike--before they put the road in to Cooper Lake. The place has…

Kathryn, This looks like the view from the picnic area. I feel like I'm there now. I love your work.

What size is this? About 8"x8" maybe? Very nice.

Its not surprising that there is confusion. Even for something that seems relatively simple, unless someone is sitting next to you showing you how to do it, written instructions for doing something on a computer can be confusing. So hopefully there…

Don, I got to thinking about this and realized I was missing something obvious. You had it right in your instructions. 1) type in the URL first in Edit mode. 2) highlight the URL you typed, 3) click on the hyperlink icon, 4) type the URL again into…

Hi Don, I don't know if its a difference between PC and Mac--I only have a PC. What I meant is that if I type in an example of the html code for a link, the Ning server will convert it into the link, so another viewer can't see the html code. So in…

That's why I typed the instructions in a Word document and converted it to a pdf file. There's no way to adequately give examples of how to create the html on this forum because the examples are automatically displayed as links and you can't see the…

Robert--you are very welcome. Years ago I wrote a 300 page user's guide to the software product I developed, WorkingArtist (since given to another developer), and I worked with many artists over the years related to computer issues as well as buildi…

Robert-here are written instructions for adding your link.

Bill--I take it that you don't think much of quick draws, but it is unclear to me what you mean about "artists instead of looking forward to challenging themselves are tying to copy what was done 130 to 140 years earlier." Would you be willing to sa…

I saw the exhibit of Monet's last paintings, done when he was nearly blind, at the Portland Museum a few years ago. The paintings were big and wild and free. There was a lot of scraping off on at least one that I remember. Michael you may know this…

Well, come check out places during the second week of July when you participate in our 2nd Fresh Air Artists Festival. Sill in the planning stages, and we are revamping the way it will go... (much more affordable for the incoming artists among other things... but I will be contacting you later on this.)
Right now we have 6 inches of snow with a promice of much more... totally making my hand yearn for a paintbrush, but first Ineed to figure out how to stop that slide show I have going... it is totally annoying me.

Kathryn, (my cat is off the keyboard for the time being, so gotta type fast here)I want to thank you so much for your helpful response to my question. I have been doing small value studies of my photos, then painting them on 5X7 gessoed mat board. They are going well ( & its fun). Thanks again.

Hi Kathryn, If you were to give out one special tip on how to stick to large color masses or values, and not get lost in detail...what would it be? What size brushes do you use? Do you do any touching up in the studio?
