Cecile Hines said… many here are self taught, from all walks of life. just paroose away and get to know us. i started by clicking on everything to see what it was...see what works for you.

Donald Maier said… Your work is unique and distinctive. Your use of black breaks a cherished rule of the French Impressionists.... not to use black... Bravo! I like using black myself. At least in pastels. Your style as you put it, bubbles up, is one that will, over time, will evolve and improve and become your signature. Using or not using certain things in our work become the things that set our work appart from others. We have a group started from South Africa, but the lady who started it dropped out of site. Would you like to take it over? Let me know and I can switch the Admin Job to you. No real work to do, but might be fun, getting to know the others in your country. Maybe get together and paint? You must join the group first though.
I am not sure where to find the challenge
Lindy Du Toit said… To: Delilah Smith - you will have to look at the top of the page and click on GROUPS then look for the block that says ART CHALLENGE and click on that. I am sure you will find this quite easy.

Thanks for the help Linda

Sharon Hind-Smith said… Hi Lindy,
Wanted to get back to you. I finally had a chance to view everyone's work and read the comments today... how nice! I was impressed by all of the work and have gotten a few ideas on what to do and where to go next. I really like both of your paintings and can't believe you did the 2nd one in 10 minutes. My goodness! I definitely relate to your palette-very subtle and beautiful. I can feel the breeze. I just had the chance to check out your slideshow too. Love your collection... a good range in techniques. The pen and ink is sweet. I worked as an illustrator for some time... you too? I think you are very good at recognizing and verbalizing key points as well... art teacher, perhaps? Thanks for your great insight on all the work!... and do you really live in South Africa? Wow... can't say I've ever been there but I can now see it from your perspective. I look forward to the next challenge!

Lindy Du Toit said… Sharon, thank you so much for your kind comments. Much appreciated. I am glad you like my 10 minute painting. Yes it is only a small one.... 200 x 250mm (20 x 25cms) so it took less than 10 minutes. I was waiting for it to dry a bit, when I looked and saw that it was done... Had I added more stuff it would be spoiled.... No I am not really an art teacher although I have my art diploma from Intec College, and studied for almost three years at the Frank Joubert School of Fine Art in Rondebosch, Cape Town. And no I am not an illustrator as such, but have designed letterheads and other stuff for people over the years. For example, I drew the image of the Black Korhaan (endangered bird from S Africa) for the letterhead of the Birding Club of Cape Town. And I live 60kms north of Cape Town in a little town called Malmesbury. Look it up on the google maps.
