R. MCMILLEN WATERCOLORS
I have been a Signature Member of the Kansas Watercolor Society since 1974. I grew up in Kansas at the edge of the Kansas Flint Hills region. After high school, I served in the Air Force and later completed my MS in Engineering at Kansas State University and moved to Wichita, Kansas.
I began painting watercolor in early 70s. In the 1970s and early 1980s, I was active in Kansas area galleries, art shows and fairs, including the Kansas City Plaza Art Fair, the KC Hallmark Plaza Art Fair, and the Wichita Book and Art Fair (First Place Watercolor 1972). My wife and I left Kansas in 1985 and returned to Wichita in 2006.
We lived in the Seattle area for 7 years and after retiring, we lived full time in a motor home. During that time we spent summers in the West and Northwest with extended periods in Washington and Oregon. We then spent the winters in Casa Grande, Arizona until returning to Wichita full time.
During the period 1994 to 2004, I had paintings at different times, in the North Head Gallery, Long Beach, Washington, and Smatterings Gallery, Rapid City, South Dakota. In Long Beach, I had a First Place Watercolor, in a Peninsula Art Association Festival and did a small commemorative painting for the Long Beach Street Beautification Project Dedication Ceremony in 1995. In 1994 and 1995, I also taught a watercolor class at the Fiesta Grande RV Resort in Casa Grande.
In 2007, my watercolor paintings were accepted in two juried shows, the Wichita Art Council 2007 Show at City Arts and the 2007 Kansas Watercolor Society Great 8 Exhibition at the Wichita Center for the Arts.

The Wichita, Kansas Chislom Creek Park has the Great Plain Nature Center that has walking paths through the park around ponds and natural grasses and plants. There is also a Center building with examples of native Kansas plants and animals. Each year the Center sponsors a plein air paint out, "Art on the Trail". They invite artists to spend the day painting along the walking trails so park visitors can watch them paint. This year it will be held on October 17. At the end of the day, the artist…
