Cortona Window

"This one prompts me to go back to some photos I took in Ireland, of a similar view, and also, to pictures I took in Lucca in 2006. Unfortunately, therefore, will not be plein air, but, what the heck, good for winter studio work. When done, might…"

"Sorry about your feet, Sandy, but, even though it was hot, the painting is cool. I am curious to know did you paint what you saw, or re-compose (composition, pot colors) to create what you wanted. Whatever you did, it works so well. Myles"

"I enjoyed your blog posting. I too traveled recently to France on a Bike/barge tour. I did photograph but no time to paint. I would have enjoyed taking a few more days to explore on my own. Perhaps the next visit. I did visit the Forest of…"

My Travels Are Showing

I love painting in foreign locals because it is a chance to sit quietly and absorb my surroundings. I can't help but feel sorry for the tourists in the large groups being herded along, barely having time to snap a quick photo, because they are missing so much.In Europe when you purhase a meal you own the table, so I look for the cafe table with the best view and then buy breakfast or lunch so I can paint. Here I am in the famous location of Van Gogh's painting Foram Square in Arles, France. I…See More

"Just before leaving to teach a workshop in Belgium and another in Santorini, I was asked by Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento, California to paint some "Small Gems" for the December group show in the gallery. So between the workshops I…"

"The vineyards here in the Sierra Nevada foothills are just beginniing to take on color. Last weekend I visited my inlaws in Suisun Valley, and their vineyard was still mostly green. They are about 10 minute drive from Napa."

Lucca-Room With a View

"hey this is great! You obviously are another "mad drawer" when you travel. Looks like we have been in the same part of the world. I taught a workshop in Cortona, Tuscany last fall and will go back to teach another one in September 2010.…"

"This is one of the best paintings I have seen in a long time. Great composition. Very skillful balance between drafting and color wash. It would even have worked for the linework alone."

"Thanks Donald, they are fun to do. I take my students on one or two trips a year and we do these little ink and watercolor sketches in journals or as small format paintings. So I just posted about 6 years worth of trips the other night, that is why…"

Watercolor Workshop Instructor for small group trips to Europe

I have two passions, painting and traveling so I have combined them both by creating watercolor journals and watercolor paintings on paper and Aquabord in my favorite places around the world.

To make my trips affordable and more fun, I have teamed up with two small group tour companies and taken students to exciting destinations such as France, Italy, Bali, South Africa, and Hawaii. The companies are French Escapade and Toscana Americana both offer single destination small group workshops of 7 to 12 people. That means I have plenty of time to help each student create their personal watercolor journal or paintings, we are not moving around packing and unpacking, we are not on buses with 25 people, and we are not lugging around easels and wet paintings. This is watercolor folks, everything fits in a Rick Steve's day pack and drys in minutes.

This year we have a group going to Belgium (sorry that trip is booked) and Santorini, Greece (space available) in September . In September of 2010, I will be returning to my favorite Tuscan village, Cortona for another fabulous workshop.

oops

I have a two person show in Sacramento California up right now, and since most or all of you do not live in Sacramento, I thought I would post a portfolio of the show so you could see it. I just received an email from Donald that said I can't post studio work, so I will delete the portfolio and move the ones in the show that were done plein air to my plein air portfolio. Sorry about that, my mistake. If you want to see the show you can find it on my website www.sandydelehanty.com, it is called… Continue

Sandy as a Penryn/Loomis resident of the past I'm wondering if you were a Del Oro graduate and if so... do we know each other?

Sandy, no, don't know your son. I moved from there to Minnesota in 1979, but my mom and brother still live in Loomis. I still love it there and try to get there as often as is possible.
