French Farm, Akaroa

yesterdays painting in rather overcast weather, couldn't finish it so darkened up the hillside in the center when I got home.This harbor is the cauldron of an old volcano and has many interesting bays & headlands.

"Thanks Lindy, yes the trawler you refer to is up for scraped bottom in an unusually tidy boat yard but that may be due to the fact that it is in Northern Germany near the border of Denmark! I used a ruling  pen (architects drafting tool) …"

"I came upon this old lugger at Gweek in Cornwall and with the small sailing dinghy made a dlightful if not rather difficult subject and I was standing knee deep in water by the finnish. I think the limited pallete in this work helps to hold it all…"

"yes I stretch the paper first on a large sheet of primed  plywood  so as not to stain the back of the paper and then have two easels support it on a slight angle...very furtive lines for the main shapes before setting into the sky and…"

You may be interested in these two watercolorists.... Michael is a friend who specializes in architecture (http://www.reardonwatercolors.com/index.html) .... Denis Clavreul's ( http://www.denisclavreul.com/ ) work I came across by accident.
