Thoughts on Why We Do It!

There is a vitality, a life force, a
quickening that is translated through you into action and because there
is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you
block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.

The world will not have it.

It is not your business to
determine how good it is nor how valuable it is nor how it compares with
other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and
directly, to keep the channel… Continue

Blarney Castle playhouse in Mukwonago

It was sunny earlier this week but by Thursday had clouded over. When I read the chamber of commerce's blurb on this I thought it would be a bit bigger but it was still pretty neat.

Chamber of Commerce Blurb: "The castle, with its sturdy stone walls, was built in 1897 by the Porter family. A friendly rivalry among the neighbors led them to erect this replica of the Irish Blarney Castle so that they would have a better garden than their neighbors. They got the idea from the World's… Continue

Sargent's Alligators

My best friend from high school and later art school found me after Googling my name. I had been looking for him the same way, but he keeps a low profile, unlike myself. He was the biggest influence on me back then, in terms of the artists I idolized and the music I listened to. I began listening to classical music because of him and started seriously looking at the work of Homer, Sargent and Wyeth. He was the one who introduced me to watercolor and… Continue

Oil Pastel Sketch of Vernon Farm

Not too bad outside today. Just damp & overcast, so no interesting shadows from the sun. I had a hard time deciding what to paint but finally settled down & painted the shed.

The Wind Of Change (Poem & Art)

The wind of change has begun, in this land of the golden sun.

The gossip shall blow, out of control in this town of glitter and gold.

Who shall take hold, of these demanding polls, the young or the old?

Claims foretells of many whispering tails, of the contender being the pretender.

There will be one winner, who will not surrender The Tonight Show Splendor.

So let the games unfold, one will be knocked out cold, and the… Continue

Martin Luther King Mural

Last Wednesday, Jan 6th, Suzie and I went to an artist's studio in downtown Atlanta at a friend of mine, Louis Delsaurte, who is in the last stages of finishing up a huge multi-paneled mural for the Martin Luther King Center. We working for about 7 or 8 hours that day, working in acrylic. I was working on MLK himself, trying to give him a Seuret effect of pointillism to more closely match his original designs. Suzie worked on another panel doing some doors and other background textures.…

Finallly got some plein air painting in while at the coast in Lincoln City OR.

We stayed at our favorite place, EsterLee right on the water in Lincoln City OR. So I just walked down to the beach and voila'. The weather was good in the morning and by the end of the day storms were sliding in so I only got 3 quickies done. Had some trouble settling down. My eyes kept hopping all over the glorious ocean and the waves forever change. I like to sit and let what I am going to paint sink in a little. Digest what to keep and what to omit, but I was on a tight time frame what with… Continue

Timidity

Excerpts from "The Painter's Process... The Inner Voice" by William Reese.

I have read this book three times now and I have permission from Bill to share with you some of his thoughts that I feel are crutial to what we do.

CHAPER 6

TIMIDITY

This may seem a very peculiar thing to discuss, but for certain, timidity stands in our way more often than we care to admit. Timidity in terms of fear of… Continue
