Kenn Backhaus Workshop at Tucson Art Academy

The week for Kenn Backhaus was wonderful. He had a model for 4 days

and on the fifth day they painted in an area where there were figures moving around and the landscape was still visible. Some of the models changed costumes through out the day so it really made the days exiting. Kenn is such a wonderful teacher and he really gets in depth about the ins and outs of painting. As a…

Chilly Brrrr- COLD in Amalia

Three die hards from San Luis Valley all went down to Amalia, NM, a week or so ago: Dave Montgomery, Sue McCullough and myself, on a field trip to visit Randy Pijoan who has his home and studio there. It is beautiful country just south of the Colorado border, north of Taos. We took a chance on a break in the weather - which paid off, but the morning was desperately cold - and how cold is that? Well, it was -5 when we drove out of my driveway and I know it must have been warmer by the time we… Continue

Looking Back

Over the past 4 days I have been taking images off my old zip disks, which are saved as tiff format, and converting them to jpg's which can be uploaded here. I have also cleaned up many of them that had dust marks and dirt and other problems involved with film. These were paintings that I began… Continue

The Aspiration (Poem & Art)

The Aspiration

I aspire to be

draped in this light

absolute surrender

to the primal flight

longing to be complete

of my weary being

with a heavy heart

secrets loom inside of me

in the darkest hours

stark are the moments

feeling with out fear

in this magical spear

I proclaim sincere

I float in transparency

claiming what I hold dear

drawing you in

to be all so… Continue

Spring Plein Air in Spokane

We are so lucky to be out and about this winter! Loretta, my local plein air artist compandre, and I have been enjoying various Plein Air jaunts and we are getting very excited about the Dry Falls Plein Air Pop Up in March. For some one like me who is still somewhat gainfully self employed in a manufacturing business, this PA painting feels like a delicious guilty pleasure! I'm so hooked. I am painting again after many many years of not painting - about thirty I'd say give or take an eon. Which… Continue
