Artists Needed in Northwest Atlanta

I'd like to tell you about an organization I just learned about today called Our Kids Atlanta. Their focus is on helping at-risk kids through art-based mentoring programs. The belief is that through art and the connections they make through the art programs, kids will learn how to make better life choices in every aspect of their lives.

I've committed to donate some art…

Taking workshops

I don't know about the rest of you but this economy has hit my hard. The only paintings selling are small ones , and I am happy that is happening but it is so slow. I had sulked around for some time about it, verbally too. That really is a terrible way to deal with this issue and I have had to turn my brain around to stop thinking so negative. I can't change what is happening but I can make the most of it. And though this sort of thinking usually makes me crazy when I hear it from my husband-… Continue

Open Air

"Plein Air" is French for "Open Air", which means painting outdoors in the changing natural light and atmospheric conditions. You of course know this already. However, more than just the lighting conditions, it is the drawing from life rather than from a photograph. Making a 2d image from a 3d subject is really most of what we are talking about... such as working in the studio of a figure or someone sitting for a portrait, or a still life.

When There's a Will, There's a Way

I blog at www.jensenstudio.blogspot.com. In my last entry, I talked about the generosity of strangers and how they often let you paint on their property. Unfortunately, not all strangers are created equal. Yesterday, I was kicked off “private property” while painting. After all the years I’ve been plein air painting, this was a first. I'd like to know if you've had…

John Budicin Workshop at Tucson Art Academy

What an honor to have Plein Air Painters of America signature member John Budicin

teach for us at the Tucson Art Academy. He had a wonderful week and the

weather was just perfect. We had students from all over the country and they

were very impressed with our landscape. John took them to many great locations. He

painted a demo every day, which the students found very helpful.…
