November 2010 Blog Posts (14)

Wow what one year can do to a gal!

I see from my first blog post Dec 4 2009 that it has only been one year since I was sleepless in Spokane with the sheer excitement of finding out about all you plein air painters! The past 12 months has been amazing. I got sucked right in and I have been painting like a fiend every chance I get since. You PA artists are so inspiring! Every time I look at this site I see great art! I see a love of nature and the pleasure of being in nature. Your paintings are filled with life and living; and the… Continue

PAing late Sept/Oct on Lake Roosevelt

Well, we just barely got a taste for all the PA opps available to us here in the Lake Roosevelt area last October. Gregg Caudell's place is up a river valley off the famous great Columbia River, which is an endless boating PA adventure in itself. Gregg and I want you all to know that we would be delighted to paint with any and all of you. I am working up an outline for a 7 day Plein Air Artist's Retreat. If you are interested let me know. If you have a well known Artist that wants a free 7 day… Continue

PA with Don Maier and Suzie Majikol-Maier

PAing with Don Maier, Suzie Majikol-Maier and Gregg Caudell was heavenly. We spent a couple of weeks trying to paint as much of this beautiful area as possible! The arroyos, river vistas, old farms and cars, towns, the ferry crossing etc. are fabulously inspiring. The fall weather and colors were accommodating and we did our best to take advantage. We enjoyed painting together so much we plan to do it again in 2011 again. I will post what I did soon. Can't thank you and Suzie enough, Don for… Continue

Sunday morning plein-air

Went out this morning to see if any color was left on the trees. I painted from inside the truck do to the 35 degree temps. I used my cigar box setup which fits on the seat next to me. A piece of board on the seat acts as a tabletop to put the paintbox on and keeps everything clean.…

Winter is coming

We've had excellent fall weather and color. However it's starting to get cool and just this week I had to dig out my winter coat as it's starting to get chilly. I had my friend take a new picture for my profile picture.

Creative Plein Air Art

Just wanted to mention my approach to Plein air. My experience with other artist's work that is not plein air is that it is often spiritless. I think the movement within the scene one is painting... if only a few shadows or breeze or whatever is what brings plein air to life. What is your experience with the difference between photo and plein air?

On the other hand, I confess that I rarely paint a scene as it is. I often rearrange, change colors, etc. in order to create my…
