Plein air artist wins McArthur Fellowship

Rackstraw Downes, born in England, but living in the US since the sixties has won a McArthur fellowship. The so called genius grant. This is a huge surprise since the award for art usually goes to an avant garde artist, nowadays called cutting edge which is code for non traditional art.

Bowery Gallery Opening

Just back from NYC Bowery Gallery opening in Chelsea. My painting OPEN SPACE was included in their National Juried Show. I expected a few souls at the mid summer opening. However, six or seven hundred people walked through during the 3 hour opening. Met lots of great artists and some old friends.
