What a gorgeous spring day today, ... and then to remember that it was
complete white yesterday, ...
Anyway I biked around a lot, and made three paintings, so here we go:
The first one is quite early made, a little haze is still…

and lots of them are even on Sundays open, ...

Very busy though, although you can't see it that much on
my painting.

As I told yesterday, a nocturnal.
It's funny that you discover such a town completely
different, where are the possibilities where are the lovely
spots. The greatest thing is that much of the clutter is not
visible, together with your own choices it's much easier is one
way. But still it's always a surprise what your dragging home.…

Been to Deventer yesterday. A lovely city between Zutphen and Zwolle.
A old city as well, with lots of narrow streets and a huge marketplace.
De Waag (that's where the statue is looking at) is an old building
where the weight witches in the old days, Holland was quiet and authority
and many people came here and in other cities with "Waag" buildings
to let them self weight, even from Germany!
You got an certificate too proof that you weren't a witch.

I know this spot well, and thought it would be dry
as well, but sooo dry that I didn't know.
And what do you know, there was lying an old rotten
barge, ... what a gem!!
Pity that I forgot my turp, on the other hand, a good
lesson to paint what thicker.

Utrecht is a great city in Holland.
Especially on Saturday, busing with people
and all kind of little markets everywhere.
We had an appointment in a town nearby but I just couldn't
resist to try and capture a little scene of the big city
in the middle of our country.

Went to De Steeg today, because the local
newspaper and news channel reported that the
low water level was quite extreme over there.
It turned out to be a little exaggerated, compared
to the harbours in Nijmegen or Arnhem.
I found a nice view of a shipyard instead, a bit complex
but a nice practice.…

Still low tide, ... awesome!!
The only down part is the mud, standing up to your ankles
in the mud is very exhausting, but there is no way to get a
better composition.

And people who live on the boats say it's gonna sink even more.

Had a great day with my girlfriend, biking to Nijmegen
(a large city some 20 km away). I already noticed that the
river levels are extremely low now, but arriving in Nijmegen
I saw that the harbour there was dry!!! And ships where laying
around, ... awesome!!
Luckily I had my little pochade with me, but tomorrow I am gonna visit
some side arms of the Rhine to see if the ships there also laying on
the riverbed, ....…

I love spring and autumn, when the sun shines that is.
The Sun shines not so bright and it's more often shallow
then in the summer, but the leaves and grass is still there,
compared to winter.
This all gives such a nice light, glow and atmosphere,
I just love it!

And again my models left when I started, ... bugger.
It was just too hot to paint they said and I had to
agree, 61% humidity with 25 dgr. Celsius is somewhat
too much.

My first attempt to paint Erics boats propeller with rudder
We had a great laugh btw. because in Dutch a prop for a ship
just calls screw, ... so Titling this painting "Screw Eric"
was a bit too obvious.
Anyway it didn't turned out so well, the water wasn't so clear
as I expected and there was some wind on top of that. The first
time I saw this you could look clearly under the boat and even see
the other end of the rudder and the propeller as well…
