An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

In the high country of upper Kittitas County in Washington state the fall colors are a feast for the eyes.

For the past four days I have been out sketching and photographing rather than painting partly because of the frequent rain showers and partly because I recently received a copy of Darrell Anderson's book Value Sketching With Markers.(www.darrellanderson.blogspot.com) When the sun pops out the fall colors look especially brilliant.

Hope you enjoy these photos.

 Vine Maple......and more vine maple..........

Yesterday Karen Watland went with me to sketch and take photos. En route to the lake we made several stops. At one stop Karen spied this tiny frog.

June these are great photos!  I also enjoyed the PAAR very much and have yet to get my work posted here!  Thanks for all your enthusiasm for the event.  It was a blast!  I have tried sketching with markers, but found it too restricting.  For my process, it seems better that I paint a bad watercolor and learn more about the medium than to use the colored pencils.  Just my way of doing stuff.  Glad you enjoy them.  I have a book for you too.  Art and Fear (Observations on the Perils and Rewards of Artmaking), by David Bayles and Ted Orland.  Nikolai and I found it at a second hand book store just before he returned to Germany.  He suggested you have it, so when I 'm done reading it - it's yours.  Very interesting so far and helpful.  I'm china painting porcelain mugs and teapost for the Made In WA store this week.  Are you back to work?  Big hugs, Lynne

Lynne, read fast! Sounds very interesting. On sketching with markers....that they limit you is the idea. Choose 3 values - say a light gray, a mid gray, and a dark gray. Or you could use sepias in 3 values. Sketch with just those. Doing these exercises will help you make a better painting by defining and clarifying the values in your mind before you pick up the brush. Yes, working and trying to get in one day of painting at least. Painted yesterday with a group up in the Teanaway.
