PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

Last week, I went painting at Fort Mantanzas with a friend. The weather was perfect and the company was good. Around eleven AM, we were swarmed by this gianormous swarm of gnats! It was literally, a big black cloud of them! I have only seen something like it one time before in Savannah, Georgia during a camping trip with my husband. I found the whole affair to be rather humorous...still makes me chuckle....

The next morning, with a toothpick, I removed 71 gnats and one ant from a little 8x10 canvas. The poor little painting remains unfinished. Thinking I will go back out this week to wrap it up...Provided the gnats take a vacation!

We have midges here which come out in the evening, especially if its warm and near a lake or river. They would eat you alive and drive you nuts. Plus when the getcha it itches like heck so you end up doing a kind of monkey dance scratching and waving your arms to try to get rid of them.

Lighting a cigarette or two or TEN !!! is a help !!!
