PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location

I still find Plein Air painting rather stressful. Attribute it to inexperience and the fact that I am still developing a personal style.

During the Paint Out in Flagler Beach last week, I think I realized that I am trying to conform a style/expression that is "not me". Don't need to be like everyone else because I am not like everyone else in real life. Kind of excited the direction things went last week. Maybe my style is finally emerging!

Don't be affraid of failure, since that is how we learn/teach ourselves. Your style will evolve. Don't try to force it. It will happen naturally. Just follow your instincts. I am not saying "don't be influenced by other peoples work", but let it happen naturally. Experiment, choose what works for you. There are hundreds of choices to make from medium, color choices and combinations, techniques etc, all of which will effect your "style". Enjoy the journey.

I am convinced, the only way to get better at anything, is to keep working at it.

Don't ever give up.... may have to re-group back in the studio, in order to salvage the painting, but what is the worst that can happen? Erase the painting?

It has also been very helpful to hang out with our local plein air group. Not only am I developing new friendships, but I have learned a lot from them as well.
