An Online Artist's Coop for Artists who Paint on Location
Last weekend we had an incredible blooming in my azalea garden when I did some watercolors that were so colorful I simply was overwhelmed with the bright colors I was using. I invited a few painters over to share the scene but I did not get any company until a week later, yesterday, when Shane McDonald, who won 1st place in the MCMA plein air event,
and Ed Cahill, who won 3rd place,
showed up to paint with me, who only received an Honorable Mention in the MCMA competition. So I got to be the lightweight in the group. It is good to be put in your place every so often to keep your feet on the ground.
This photo shows my wife Suzie and Vivian Civantti, who had come by to meet me and pick up an oil painting of mine that she saw online and bought from my west coast trip in 2010.
We began painting around 11 am after eating about 4 donuts that Ed brought by and after they left at around 2 or 3 in afternoon, I was still on a sugar high and did two more watercolors of my white plastic lawn chairs. I got all jazzed up over the talent in my own backyard. Quite a fun day for this good old boy.
I think I will try to do a much bigger plein air event in my backyard next year when the yard is in full bloom. I may just invite everyone in Georgia Plein Air to come over and bring a pot luck, paint box and a bottle of wine... no donuts!
