I find that being with another artist that I invite to paint with me, is a valuable experience beyond the act of painting or discussing our paintings. Besides the obvious benefits of enjoying their company and sharing the experience, I enjoy the catalytic input that results. It doesn't necessarily have to do with painting, techniques, critiquing or comments about art. To me it is more about broadening my mind about everything. There is a level of communication that I experience during our conversations that elevates my thinking beyond it's normal pathways. How I see myself, them, and other artists in general is effected. It feels like an addition to my life that changes me permanently in a way that regular conversations or working with non-artists doesn't seem to create for me. Like many artists I know, I enjoy a somewhat solitary pursuit of my passion for art - painting, at this point in time. The injection of another artist into my sphere, my inner world of artistic experience leaves a lasting impression. One I value for it's ability to precipitate new understandings about myself; which I find invigorating.
