Starting up on Plein Air Artists
Thanks to Don, I'm starting a page on this site. I'm going to put a little information on this site in hopes of connecting to others who enjoy the pleasures of standing in a field pushing some paint around.
The Basics:
Charles S. Scogins
Born: Havre De Grace MD.
April 24th
BFA Academy of Art College San Francisco CA.
Apprenticed with Antonio Mani (Portrait Artist)
I've painted since early on in my life and have never felt more at peace than when I am out pushing paint around. Working as an Illustrator, Designer and Art Director for 25 years for a wide variety of clients and advertising agencies, I came to Atlanta in 1987 and have been active in both the commercial and fine art communities. Over the past 10 years I've taught painting, anatomy, color theory and drawing. Teaching others to explore and express themselves through art gives me a sense of joy these days.
Currently, I teach and paint portraits and commissioned art work. I use both Alla-Prima
and traditional methods to create my paintings. My favorite influences are John Singer Sargent, John Henry Twatchman, Cecilia Baux, Ivan Nikolaevich Kramskoy, Sorrolla y Bastida, Burt Silverman and Richard Schmid. I hope you enjoy my work half as much as I did creating it!
