Please help me in planning my workshop schedule for 2011. Could you take a few minutes and answer a survey that I have online? Your feedback will be extremely helpful.
I have just come across this discussion and am interested to know what type of paper you are using? In traveling through and painting for weeks on end in India three times, I used unstretched primed canvas.
More recently in England and Italy, I used 8-ply archival matboard, with several coats of prime. I find that using the latter really soaks up the oil quickly and the paintings dry realtively quick.
My issue has always been that I love textue in my work and find myself changing the way I paint, somewhat, if I don't have the drying time or the storage for the paintings with more texture.
Thanks for sharing your story here of early plein air trail and artists. Interesting.

BTW, should you ever want to do an online survey, I highly recommend SurveyMonkey.

Hi Maddine and thanks,
Your work and acedemic insight into the history of plein air are very interesting.
I have a lot of work that was done in oil straight onto Sketchbook paper. For the reasons
you have stated - mainly portability, I still find it an easy way to work in the field. I'll just
have to look into mounting these works. If you have any tips ie. what type of glue should be
used i'd appreciate it. In the meantime I think I might do some research on the net on these issues.
Regards
Patrick
