Great video Larry. Thanks for sharing. One question, please... you mix paint on palette first, do you add some odorless thinner at that time, or do you dip your brush in it and add to the paint puddle as you are painting to arrive at the viscosity you are seeking?

Hey Marie...

I'm not working with odorless thinner for one...use thinner usually only when laying in an undertone or color...or blocking something in. For premixing color...I use a real copal as my medium, mixing a couple drops per inch ribbon of paint to a buttery consitency.

There is never a hard fixed rule though that says as I feel paint tacking up a bit and want it a bit more fluid, I can't add or dip a brush into the medium...

hope that helps

Loved your video and the really good advise on brushwork - something I need to concentrate on. Thanks for the comment on my painting today "September Wildflowers".
It was nice to see your work - loved the water studies with the reeds!

Thanks Joy...thanks Antonia..
it is fun when you develop a sense of the brush's essential purpose to wield it with a special empowerment given to it. Many of us that teach workshops, have noted that often artists will dab for no apparent reason over and over on a spot like they are mesmerized or in a trance. Ask them what they are doing(?), and they have no clue! An exercise such as this, is certainly to snap some out of that trance! 8^)
